The improved Microsoft 365 Security Center now brings together functionality from existing Microsoft security portals, including Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Microsoft 365 Defender, and more. Once in Microsoft 365 Security, from a centralized location, you can manage all endpoint, email, and cross-product investigations configurations and remediation within a single unified portal. Microsoft 365 Security has present security policies. Use these security policies for your organization that determines behavior and protection level for predefined threats. These templated policies are based on Microsoft recommendations and current attack trends.
Preset security policies provide a centralized location for applying all of the recommended spam, malware, and phishing policies to users at once. Preset security policies use corresponding policies from various protection features in Exchange Online Protection (EOP) and Microsoft Defender for Office 365. EOP is the core of security for Microsoft 365 subscriptions and helps keep malicious emails from reaching employee’s inboxes. Furthermore, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 contains additional features that give IT administrators more layers of security, control, and investigation for better security.
There are different settings for EOP settings including the default, standard and strict setting options. Using conditions in Microsoft 365 Security, you can apply the policies throughout your organization by the recipient, group membership, or domain. Your company can mix the setting such as “Standard” security setting in addition to “Strict” security settings for a targeted set of users (for example only to “Executives”).
The Threat Policies page allows you to analyze the configuration policies in your organization. The “Configuration Analyzer” provides a central location to find and fix security policies where the settings are below the Standard protection and Strict Protection profile settings in preset security policies. By default, the configuration analyzer opens the settings and recommendations tab which compares your configuration to the “Standard Protection Profile.” Through a color-coding system, icons are displayed to confirm security recommendations, review, or display where a significant number of settings do not meet these recommendations.
Within each group, you can see the policies where discrepancies were found as well as who the easy policy applies to, its current configuration, and the recommended setting. Microsoft 365 Security also has rich reporting about security trends to track the protection status of your identities, data, devices, apps, and infrastructure.
