Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, a popular and proven ERP System, continues to be enhanced and improved as a cloud business system.  One of the great advantages of having a cloud business management ERP solution is that you never have to go through a costly and labor-intensive upgrade; these are automatic and continually being released with the cloud version of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central; namely Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 Wave 1 Updates. Other areas of the Microsoft Business Central 2024 Wave 1 enhancements center around application investments, greater county/regional availabilities, new governance/administration tools, legislation capabilities, improved reporting and analysis, and a better user experience.

With the general availability of Microsoft Business Central 2024 Wave 1, below are the highlighted general areas of improvement:

Adapt faster with Power Platform: 

Increased integration with other Microsoft Business Solutions, namely the Power Platform, results in higher productivity as these solutions work together to gain greater synergies. This is true now with deeper connectivity to the ever-evolving Microsoft Power Platform products, for example, utilizing Copilot capabilities for creating and managing workflows to automate tasks.


As more companies use Microsoft Business Central to manage multiple companies; application capabilities have been improved to more effectively manage these operations from an improved experience impacting inventory management, service, and project management, plus a deeper integration with other Dynamics 365 applications, for example, connectivity to Dynamcis 365 Microsoft Field Service. 

Copilot and AI innovation:

Microsoft Copilot is starting to be a “game changer” in how Artificial intelligence (AI) components can assist businesses.  A recent survey on business trends notes that nearly 9 out of 10 workers hope to use AI to reduce repetitive tasks in their jobs. But until recently, AI has been a commodity that few SMBs could truly invest in.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Copilot enables professionals to perform their day-to-day work with the assistance of cutting-edge AI by their side. With Copilot in Business Central, customers empower their workers with intuitive AI tools to get more done with less effort, without needing to become data scientists. This wave expands the use of Copilot capabilities, to boost productivity for a broader set of SMB roles.

Country and Regional:

Business Central continues to become available to businesses in more countries and regions. This expansion happens largely through partner-led localizations. The Microsoft partners Eco Systems create and maintain apps for specific countries and regions, and publish their apps on AppSource. In combination with built-in language offerings, Business Central is available to serve customers in more than 155 countries and regions worldwide.

Legislation Compliance:

Microsoft Business Central offers updates to regulatory features based on popular requests for improvements and ever-changing requirements from local authorities. These updates automate many processes and ensure that features comply with the regulations set by government agencies.


To help AL developers and increase their productivity, this latest Business Central release has laid the foundation for introducing namespace support in the platform and application. Namespace support makes it easier to structure apps, create better object names, and avoid identifier clashes. As apps mature, the need to refactor is inevitable, so this release adds the ability to move ownership of a table and its data between extensions. Additionally, developers can hide specific variable data so that other parties can’t access it during debugging, which protects internal data, plus developed now have more control as it relates to reporting and data analysis.

Governance and Administration:

Additional enhancements continue with  Business Central administrators who get more tools for managing environments, apps, and data migrations.  Specifically, there are now more granular administrator roles to give more control over granted access and connectivity with the Microsoft Power Platform Environment and Business Central.

Reporting and Data Analysis:

Accurate, timely, and insightful data is critical for companies today, and want to harness the power of modern business solutions to make strategic decisions, spot trends, and stay competitive.  All of these goals are aided greatly by having modern business intelligence and analytical solutions such as Microsoft Powe BI coupled with business reporting native in Microsoft Business Central.

Power BI Improvements are continually being applied to the Microsoft Business Central system to extract the data necessary for continued growth and provide the information to empower employees.  Power BI analytics, business reporting, and easy-to-interpret dashboards are paramount in today’s fast-moving, data-driven business culture.
